2 easy walks on Lake Como

Two easy itineraries on Lake Como to do with your family

Today is the right day for a short article and bite-sized suggestions.

I just want to give you some ideas for simple walks to do on a beautiful, sunny afternoon on Lake Como.

1# The old rural villages route in Valsanagra

Where: in the Val Sanagra Park (above Menaggio).

Loop route – Suggested time 2 hours

Val Sanagra is a fascinating valley above the village of Menaggio, a place where there is no lack of excursions.

In 2005, a park was established in the valley to safeguard its nature and history.

You can also discover Val Sanagra by taking part in group excursions on foot (with lunch on the farm) or by electric bike. Fun guaranteed!

In order to highlight the wealth of flora, fauna, landscapes and ancient traditions that have characterised this area for centuries, a number of themed routes have been created, each leading to the discovery of different corners, each one more fascinating than the last.

I recommend this route if the small villages, made up of old houses, squares and cobbled streets arouse a certain fascination in you.

I certainly do! I really get lost wandering around that tangle of alleys that so characterises them.

In fact, this easy walk is beautiful regardless, uphill but not too much and also doable in summer as it is mostly in the woods and therefore in the shade.

You can certainly get your fill of nature, which never hurts!

The starting point is the so-called Pianure di Loveno, just above Menaggio (Piamuro locality). As it is a ring-route, it is possible to do it in one direction or the other, the important thing is to have, as reference points to reach, two places, Barna and Madri.

But don’t worry, the route is well signposted and at the beginning you will find a well-made sign describing the various possible routes and the symbols to follow.

If you like walking in company and with a local mountain guide, I recommend the excursions of Hiking Como Lake. Discover their most beautiful hikes starting from 25€!

2# Walk Sorico – San Miro – Ponte del Passo – Sorico

Where: North Lake Como

Loop route – suggested time 1h 30′

This is another easy walk that is also suitable for children.

I recommend this one for the extraordinary panorama you can enjoy from the square in front of the San Miro church.

san miro sorico

If you go there on a clear day, the view over the Alto Lario and the Piano di Spagna is amazing.

The view from San Miro church

The church can be reached quickly by taking the mule track from the church of Saint Stefano in Sorico (Cesare Battisti Square).

In order to see the interior of the church, you must visit it on special occasions.

Keep in mind that on special dates torchlight processions or night walks are organised to the sanctuary. A very suggestive way to enjoy this jewel set in the green.

The walk continues behind the sacred building.

It is there that you will find the path leading to the hamlets of Corzone and Masina.

At that point, to reach Ponte del Passo (a bridge), from where you then take the cycle path that leads back to the starting point, all you have to do is follow the tarmac road down to the state road.

The final stretch, at the lake, flanked by fields and reeds, is also very pleasant.

This is the initial section of the cycle path to Domaso.

Another beautiful route to keep in mind for another occasion.
